5 including 1 from Odisha killed after being run over by Konark Express

Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident, five people were killed when the Kolkata-bound Konark Express ran over them near Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district on Monday night around 9.20 pm.

According to reports, all of them were the passengers of train No. 12515 Coimbatore-Silcher express. They got down after pulling chain in mid-section of the Visakhapatnam- Palasa main line between Sigadam-Chipurupalli . They had got down onto the adjoining railway track in Batuva village when their train stopped due to a technical glitch.

Meanwhile, the Konark Express was coming from the opposite direction en-route towards Mumbai and ran over these people. As a result, five people including one from Ganjam district of Odisha were killed and another sustained critical injuries.

The injured was carried in the same train to Srikakulam Road Station and an ambulance was arranged by the railway authorities to shift to hospital.

Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy expressed shock over the incident, and asked officials to ensure best possible treatment to the injured and extend all help to the families of the deceased persons.
