Cuttack: At least five houses were gutted and properties worth lakhs lost in a massive fire which broke out in Khalipalli village under Banki block last night.
As per the report, sparks erupted in one Antaryami Nayak’s house in the village late in the night and later spread to the neighbourhood. Till the family members woke up and swung into action to douse the flames at least five houses had been completed reduced to ashes.
Fire officials from Kalapathar reached to the spot later to contain the flames.
“I lost valuables to the blaze including furniture, electronic goods and other items which had been purchased for daughter’s marriage, dates of which has already been fixed,” informed Nayak.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, locals have demanded suitable compensation from the district administration for the victim family.
