5 houses gutted, 2 cows charred to death in Puri village fire

Puri: At least five houses were completely reduced to ashes and property worth lakhs lost in a massive fire which broke out in Sankhua village under Gop police limits in the district today. Two cows were also charred to death in the mishap.

As per the report, smokes started billowing out of the cattle shed of one Duryodhan Mallick in the village in the wee hours today and sparks started engulfing it before his family could do anything to douse it. Later, the fire spread to four more houses located in the neighbourhood leaving locals in a state of panic.

The blaze was brought under control by Gop fire brigade officials later in the day, after they reached the spot getting intimation to launch firefighting efforts.

Locals have demanded suitable compensation for the families rendered homeless in the mishap.
