5 child labourers rescued from sweets shop in Keonjhar

Keonjhar: Childline officials have rescued at least five child labourers after conducting a raid at a sweet shop in Khaparakhai area under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar district last night.

The rescued children have been identified as residents of Kalanda village under Nayakote police limits of Keonjhar district.

As per the report, a joint team of Anandpur Childline Sub Centre and Ghasipura Police conducted a raid at the sweets shop located near Khaparakhai bus stand last night. During the raid the minors were seen engaged in preparing sweets inside the godown.

“A health check-up of the rescued children have been conducted. They would be produced before Keonjhar Child Welfare Committee today and would be rehabilitated after consultation with their families,” informed Bhagirathi Das, Andandpur Childline Sub Centre.

Hinting at action against the guilty owner of the sweets shop Das said in such cases the accused attract imprisonment up to 2 years and a fine of Rs 20000 to Rs 50000 per child.
