Bhubaneswar: As many as 442 posts of Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) are lying vacant, informed Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Sudam Marandi, in reply to a query made by BJP legislator from Biramitrapur, Shankar Oram in the state assembly today.

As per the reply by the minister 1269 OAS officers are currently posted in the state against the sanctioned strength of 1711 officers. The minister also ruled out any possibility of promotion of any other cadres to OAS cadre.

The large scale vacancy of OAS cadres has resulted in severe shortage in the field administration personnel across the state. The Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) conducts Odisha Civil Services Examination (OCSE) for several posts including OAS.

“It is surprising that the OPSC issues notification for few posts though so many OAS posts are lying vacant in the state. The state government should consider filling up all the posts which will also create opportunities for young aspirants in the state,’ said an OAS aspirant.
