Bhadrak: At least 5 cows were charred to death and assets worth lakhs lost in a massive fire which broke out in Guhalia Rout Sahi under Bhandaripokhari block of the district last night and gutted 42 houses.
As per the report, sparks erupted in one Kalindi Rout’s house in the village due to electric short circuit late in the night and spread to the neighbourhood. The incident turned tragic after the flames caused an LPG cylinder explosion in one of the house and destroyed three bikes, cash worth Rs 30000 kept there.
Villagers got no time to protect their belongings as the fire spread very fast to devastate the village till Bhandaripokhari fire brigade teams arrived at the spot. The blaze was brought under control after Herculean efforts of fire officials for hours.
Villagers have demanded compensation from district administration for 23 families rendered homeless in the mishap.
