Cuttack: At least 40 rooms were gutted in a fire mishap which broke out at the Paga haat (market) near Salipur of Cuttack district last night.
As per the report, sparks erupted in a house in the market late in the night and spread rapidly to the neighbourhood.
Till people launched firefighting efforts the flames had engulfed many more houses.
Valuable assets including furniture, electronic goods and vital documents were reduced to ashes in the mishap.
Later, fire services personnel from Salipur rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, locals have demanded compensation for the affected persons who sustained heavy loss in this mishap.
It is worthy to mention that one such fire mishap had taken place in this market five years back.
