4 KV students killed in road accident while returning from school farewell programme

Koraput: In a tragic incident, four 12th class students were killed in a car-tipper head-on crash near Coffee Board on NH-26 here on Tuesday.

The deceased students have been identified as Niharika Bhanja, S.Jayashri, Rajib Patra and Ruben Patra. All of them were students of Koraput Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV).

The accident took place when the car in which the four students were traveling collided head on with a sand-laden tipper. The students were returning home after getting farewell from the school this afternoon. The school authorities had conducted the farewell programme for the twelfth class students as they will be going out of the school after writing their board exam which is slated to begin from March 5.

While Rajib Patra, who was driving the car, died on the spot, Niharika Bhanja and S.Jayashri died while undergoing treatment at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College & Hospital (SLNMCH) in Koraput. Ruben Patra was shifted to Visakhapatnam as his condition turned critical, however he too succumbed to his injuries later in the day. 

Local police has initiated an investigation into the incident.
