4 killed, 5 injured as car rams into roadside tree in Keonjhar

Anandpur: Causing a wedding function to turn sour, at least four persons from two families were killed and five others turned critical after a car they were traveling in hit a roadside tree at Bankhidi Square on Bhadrak-Karanjia NH-53 in the wee hours on Saturday.

The mishap took place between 5 AM to 6 AM while Raghunath Panda of Sainkul village under Anandpur police limits was returning home with his family from Thakurmunda of Mayurbhanj district after attending a marriage function. A few in-laws of Panda were also accompanying him in the vehicle which he himself was driving.

However, as per some eyewitnesses, at Bankhidi Square Panda lost control of the wheels and ended up dashing his vehicle against a roadside tree. The impact of the collision was so serious that the vehicle got completely mangled from the front.

While Panda’s father Baikuntha Panda, mother Laxmipriya Panda, wife China Panda and mother-in-law Manorama Panda died on the spot, he sustained critical injury along with three others in the mishap and was rushed to Anandpur CHC.

The injured have been later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating condition.

Police have reached the spot and seized the mangled vehicle after sending the dead bodies for autopsy to Anandpur CHC.
