4 kg pangolin scales seized in Odisha, 2 arrested

Khordha: As many as four kilograms pangolin scales has been seized and two poachers have been arretsed at Dhalapathar in Khordha district on Tuesday.

Acting on tip-off about the sale of a live Pangolin, the Khordha Forest Division had laid a trap by posing as customers to nab the poachers. However, as the Pangolin died due to some unknown reasons, the poachers had brought the scales for deal. The forest officials had formed three teams to nab the accused.

The first team comprised of two persons including Khordha ACF Arvind Mohanty, who posed as customers. The second team led by Khordha ACF Gobind Biswal and the third team led by Ranger Asit Mishra. The accused brought the Pangolin scales in a cement bag, added reports.

The accused persons tried to flee from the spot but were arrested. Two accused have been forwarded to court.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of others in the illegal trade and poaching.
