4 Kanwarias killed, 3 hurt in separate mishaps in Odisha

Rourkela/Jagatsinghpur: At least four Kanwarias including three of a family were killed and three others sustained injuries in separate mishaps which struck the state since last night ahead of the offering of holy water to Lord Shiva on ‘Shravan’ Monday today.

In the first incident, at least three persons were mowed down by a speeding train on Brahmani railway bridge near Panposh Railway Station in Steel City Rourkela this morning. The family from Bhilai was on its way on foot to offer water at Vedavyas temple when the accident took place.

Two others of the family sustained injury in the accident and a woman member plunged into the river water and went missing.

While injured have been admitted to a hospital efforts are on to rescue the missing woman.

In another mishap in Jagatsinghpur later last night, at least two Kanwariyas drowned in Mahanadi river near Jhulababa Pitha under Tirtol area.

While one of the victims identified as Rajkishore Das of Pipal Madhav village under Tirtol police limits is still missing and feared dead in the incident, the other was rescued by the fire officials later in the night.

The injured identified as Saroj Nath has been admitted to Manijanga Hospital in critical condition.
