Angul: At least four houses were gutted and assets worth lakhs were lost in a fire which broke out in Pokunda village under Bantala police limits in the district last night.
The mishap took place after a massive bushfire which had erupted on Saturday in a nearby forest spread to the village late in the night and engulfed one local Goura Pradhan’s house. The family which was asleep at the time of the incident had a close shave in the incident.
The victim family tried to douse the fire on their own as the local fire brigade team failed to reach the spot in the absence of proper road connectivity. Till the flames were brought under control furniture, cash and several vital documents had been reduced to ashes.
Meanwhile, Angul District President of BJP Bhagirathi Pradhan has reached the village and taken stock of the situation.
