Bhubaneswar: The third wave of Covid-19 pandemic is still looming as positive cases have been rising significantly in several countries, informed Health Director Niranjan Mishra on Saturday.

He also said that the current Covid wave in Europe and China is due to Delta variant which was first detected in India in late 2020.

“Odisha has already faced this variant, so there is no reason to worry. However, the threat of third wave is still looming,” added Health Director Mishra.

The vaccination in the State is underway and the immunity trends have been showing positive signs.

Meanwhile, the Director of Health and Family Welfare Bijay Panigrahi has said that Odisha has administered 1st dose to about 80% beneficiaries. He said that the State has currently 46 lakh doses of Covid vaccines.

The aim is to complete the double dose of Covid vaccination as early as possible. “Despite vaccination, the European nations are reporting infections. So there’s no room for complacency,” said Panigrahi.

Pangrahi has also informed that till date 3.82 crore doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered. Around 80% eligible population in Odisha have received the first dose and 37% are fully vaccinated. The front line workers are to identify the beneficiaries who are due to take both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine under the ‘Har Ghar Dastak’ campaign which commenced on November 2.

The campaign is slated to continue throughout the month in order to ensure that the beneficiaries who have already received their first dose be fully vaccinated by end of November. While, the people who are yet to take the vaccine jab will be motivated to ensure 100% of beneficiaries take the first dose by end of December.
