38-year-old man attempts suicide in Quarantine Centre in Odisha’s Rayagada

Rayagada:  A 38-year-old man reportedly attempted suicide at a quarantine centre here in Odisha on Wednesday.

According to reports, the man, identified as Bhupi Patra, consumed phenyl to end his life at the quarantine centre located at Kalyan mandap near the GCD High School in the district headquarter town.

However, Patra was rushed to the District Headquarter Hospital here for treatment. His condition was stated to be stable after the treatment.

Patra, a resident of Palsora area of Ganjam district, was sent to the quarantine centre on April 7 after he arrived in the town from Ganjam during the ongoing lockdown, imposed by the government to contain the spread of coronavirus infection.

With a view to combat Coronavirus infection, the Naveen Patnaik government has set up over 7000 quarantine centres, equipped with basic facilities such as water supply, bed covers, toilets, mosquito nets, electricity, sanitizers, hand wash and soaps, across  the State .
