Bhubaneswar: Police last night arrested two peddlers from Nayapalli area and seized brown sugar weighing 34 grams from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Santosh Routray and Surendra Singh. Police said that both the accused have been peddling brown sugar in Bhubaneswar and adjoining areas for past few months.

Excise officials said that the root of the peddling racket originates from Balasore and adjoining areas. “The banned contraband is mostly smuggled into Odisha from states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal. The traders in the slum procure it from Balasore and its adjoining areas and sell it in Bhubaneswar with hefty margins,” said an excise official.
