33% reservation for women: BJD MPs meet Vice President Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhi: BJD MPs of both from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha met Vice President Venkaiah Naidu at his residence here today.

Led by Prasanna Acharya, the BJD Parliamentarians including Bhartruhari Mahtab, Pratab Deb, Prasanna Kumar Patasani, Tathagata Satpathy, Sarojini Hembram, Pratyusha Rajeshwari Singh, Anubhav Mohanty and others met the Vice President over 33% reservation for women in State Assemblies and Lok Sabha.

It is worthwhile to mention here that many BJD leaders, after the party decided on December 5, have been consulting several political parties as part of its effort to build consensus on the Women’s Reservation Bill, pending in the Parliament. They are slated to consult 22 political parties, including the Congress and the BJP.

Earlier on November 21, the Odisha Assembly had also passed a resolution in this regard during the winter session.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi also has also written to the state governments, where it is in power either on its own or as an alliance partner, asking them to pass a resolution urging the Centre to pass the women’s reservation bill at the earliest.

Currently, Odisha assembly has only 12 women out of its total strength of 147.
