Jeypore/Baripada: At least three woman have been killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in Koraput and Mayurbhanj districts of the State last night.
In the first instance which took place in Narayanpatna block last evening, two sister-in-laws namely, Mari Radha (32) and Mari Sune (25) were killed and three others sustained critical injuries after being struck by a lightning bolt. They were working in a farm when the mishap took place.
All the injured have been admitted to Naryanpatna Hospital following the incident.
Later in Salaibedi village in Mayurbhanj district, a woman was killed after being hit by lightning while collecting firewood for domestic use. The victim has been identified as Parbati Gagrai.
The lightning mishaps took place despite the IMD Bhubaneswar Centre’s thunderstorm alert for at least 10 Odisha districts till 5.30 pm yesterday. In the alert the Weatherman had also predicted lightning accompanied by rain.
