Puri: While the Srimandir Ratna Bhandar (treasure trove) inspection is round the corner and almost all formalities in this direction have been completed, Puri SP Sarthak Saranghi pointed at a three-tier security check for the inspectors for the purpose on Sunday.

While talking to media persons, Sarangi said as per a discussion with the Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) it has been decided to subject all members of the Ratna Bhandar inspection team to a three-tier check before entry to the treasure trove. However, he said a final call on the same would be taken at a meeting chaired by SJTA chief administration PK Jena on April 2.

“All ten members of the inspection team will be frisked by police officials to bar them from taking any kind of metal items or electronic gadgets with them inside the treasure trove. In the second stage they would be required to change their clothes by donning the ‘gamuchha’ (traditional towel) provided by the temple administration and only then would be allowed to pass through the ‘Beharana Dwara’ to reach near the entrance of the Ratna Bhandar. In the final step, the inspectors would be scanned thoroughly by the servitors of the temple authorised to check the Ratna Bhandar entrants as per the temple tradition,” said Sarangi.

In an answer to whether help of the snake helpline members would be taken or not, the SP said a final decision on that has not been taken yet. However, he did not rule out its possibility.

Earlier, a decision has been taken to keep the temple closed for devotees for at least one hour on the day of the inspection.
