Cuttack: Tightening the noose around the stone mafias, the district administration has seized at least three laterite stone laden trucks after conducting a raid in Khuntuni police limits in Cuttack district last night.
Acting upon a tip-off on the illegal stone transportation, a tehsil squad led by Athagarh Tehsildar Tapan Kumar Khuntia conducted raids near Nrusinghpur, Khuntuni and Radhadamodar Pur on NH-55 late in the night and intercepted the trucks.
During the search of the trucks, a laterite stone consignments worth lakhs were found and seized.
However, the driver and helper of the trucks managed to escape from the spot.
The administration had put goods trucks passing through the area under scanner after reports of rampant illegal transport of laterite stones to Athagarh, Khuntuni and Gurudijhatia areas from Dhenkanal district, an official informed.
The seized trucks have been handed over to Khuntuni Police and further investigation is underway in the case.
