3 persons, 8 cattle killed after being hit by lightning in Odisha

Rairangpur/Kendrapara: At least three persons and eight cattle have been killed in lightning strike in separate incidents in Odisha since last night.

As per the report, a youth namely Pandu Sardar of Dumar village of Bahalda police limits was killed after a lightning bolt hit him last night during Nor’wester rain in the area. He was standing near the gate of his house when the mishap took place.

Similarly, one Karunakar Murmu of Badaguita village under Jamada police limits died after being hit by lightning later in the night during heavy rainfall which took place in the area.

Police seized both the bodies and sent those for autopay to Rairangpur Hospital.

In Garajanga village under Marshaghai block in Kendrapara today an elderly man namely Sarat Mohanty (64) was killed in lightning while plucking flowers in his garden early in the morning at around 5 am. He was a retired employee of the Postal Department.

The livestock loss was reported from Gurubai village under Krushnaprasad block of Puri district last night. Lightning took place while at least eight cattle were standing under a tree to get respite from heavy rain killing them on the spot.
