3 members of ‘half pant gang’ arrested in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police on Monday arrested three members of the notorious ‘half pant gang’ involved in at least two robberies carried out under Chandaka Police Station area on the city outskirts on February 12.

The arrested accused have been identified as Balia Das (27) and Jagannatha Das (32) of Kendrapara district. The other accused is Bijay Das (22) of Jajpur district.

The trio was arrested after Cuttack Sadar Police shared important information on their movement to the Commissionerate Police and the later conducted raids at several places in the Twin City.

Two bikes, a pair of gold bangles, one gold bracelet, one gold necklace, one bhujali (a sharp weapon) and one crowbar were also seized from the possession of the arrested criminals.

The gang carried out two back to back loots on the day of the incident in their unique get-up of full sleeve shirts and half pants. Firstly, it barged into the house of Laxmana Moharana of Chhatabar village under Chandaka police limits in the wee hours of February 12 and burgled valuables. Later they went on foot to Jemamani Majhi’s house in neighbouring Palaspur village and robbed gold and cash after attacking and injuring her.
