3 labourers killed, 11 injured as pick-up van turns turtle

accidentMayurbhanj: In a tragic road mishap, three persons, including two women, died and 11 others sustained critical injuries as a pick-up van carrying a group of labourers turned turtle at the Damasahi square in Udala area of the district on Sunday morning.

Two of the deceased have been identified as Reena Singh and Laxmi Singh. The third victim is yet to be identified.

The mishap occurred this morning reportedly after driver of the pick-up van carrying a group of labourers to work in Udla lost control over the vehicle causing it to overturn at Damasahi square. Three of the labourers sustained critical injuries in the incident and died on the spot. Eleven others on board the pick-up van sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Udala Hospital by locals.

According to some eyewitnesses, the pick-up van first hit a Bolero on the road while trying to overtake it near Damasahi Square. As the driver of the Bolero chased him, the pick-up van overturned in an attempt to escape from the wrath of the Bolero driver.

Udala Police reached the spot after the incident and seized the mangled pick-up van from the spot. It is trying to trace the Bolero involved in the incident.
