3 killed in Odisha bus-tanker collision; 19 injured

road accidentKhurda: Three persons were killed and 19 others sustained serious injuries as a speeding a passenger bus rammed into an oil tanker head-on near the Sarua petrol pump on NH-57 here on Sunday. The impact of the accident was so serious that both the vehicles skidded off the road and overturned.

Eyewitnesses say the Banki-bound passenger bus named “Talented” with around 20-30 passengers on board met with the accident while the driver of the vehicle was trying to overtake another vehicle before Sarua petrol pump. The driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle and struck a Nayagarh bound oil tanker from the front. Two passengers on board the bus died on the spot and around 19 sustained injuries.

All the injured were rushed to the Khurda District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) immediately with the help of the Khurda and Baghamari Police, which reached the spot following the crash. While one of them died at the DHH during treatment, five others were shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar after their condition deteriorated.
