Sambalpur: At least three persons were killed and five others sustained critical injuries after a speeding truck dashed against a car on NH 53 near Tangarpali area under Dhanupali police limits in the district last night.
The deceased are Krishna Kanwar, Sanatan Mahakud, and Satyabrata Nayak. All are college students.
The mishap took place late in the night yesterday at around 2.30 AM when at least eight persons from Hirakud area were returning after visiting Laxmipuja in Padiabahal area. The Maruti van they were boarding was struck by a truck coming from the opposite direction, head-on at Tangarpali on the Highway due to rash driving of the driver. The collision left three persons dead on the spot.
Fiver others who sustained critical injury in the accident were rushed to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) by Dhanupali Police who reached the spot later in the night. They were later shifted to VIMSAR in Burla due to deteriorating condition.
