3 killed, 15 injured in separate mishaps in Odisha

Jajpur/Cuttack: At least three persons were killed and 15 others sustained injuries in separate road mishaps in Jajpur and Cuttack district today.

In the first instance, helper of a West Bengal tourist bus was killed and 15 passengers sustained injuries after it smacked into a stationary truck on Brahmani Bridge on NH-16 near Jaraka in Jajpur district early in the morning today.

Driver of the bus which was carrying passengers from Kolkata’s Dum Dum area to Puri failed to spot the stationary vehicle due to dense fog and caused the crash, says reports.

The injured have been admitted to Dharmasala Community Health Centre (CHC) and deceased sent for autopsy by local police. An investigation is underway in the incident and both vehicles have been seized.

Later in the morning in a similar incident, a container truck hit an TMT Bar laden stationary truck on the same highway near Bainchua village in Cuttack district leaving the driver and the helper of it dead on the spot.

The impact of the collision was so serious that the fire personnel and police teams had to recover the bodies from the mangled vehicle by using gas cutters.

The bodies of the deceased duo have been sent to SCB Medical for autopsy.
