3 including woman killed, 4 hurt in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Balasore/Baripada: At least three persons were killed and four others sustained injuries in separate road accidents which took place in Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts on Saturday.

In the first instance, driver of a speeding car lost control over the wheels and ended up hitting an auto-rickshaw which was carrying an unspecified number of passengers head-on near Rupsa on NH-60 in Balasore district in the morning.

At least two persons boarding the auto-rickshaw were killed on the spot and four others were hurt in the crash.

Police rushed to the spot to send the injured to a nearby hospital for treatment and seized the bodies for autopsy. Two of the injured in the accident were later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack due to deteriorating condition.

Police have seized both the vehicles involved in the crash and are trying to trace the driver of the car who managed to escape from the spot.

In another mishap which took place later in the morning, a woman was reportedly killed after losing balance and falling onto the ground while alighting a bus in Maranda village under Bahalda tehsil in Mayurbhanj district.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of neighbouring Jharkhand State.

Police have sent the deceased for post-mortem and started a manhunt to nab the absconding bus driver.
