3 dreaded criminals held after police encounter in Odisha

Cuttack/Berhampur: At least three dreaded criminals have been arrested in separate encounters by police in Millennium City Cuttack and Silk City Berhampur since last night.

A special squad of Cuttack police raided the hideout of gangster Tito’s associates Kala Babu and Alekh Routray located in Chauliaganj area in the city after a tip-off on Thursday night. While the duo opened fire at police during the encounter, they sustained bullet injuries on their legs in the exchange of fire and were nabbed.

The duo was on police radar in connection with their involvement in the attack on terror suspect Abdur Rehman’s brother Tahir, recently.

In a similar incident, Berhampur police launched a raid on history-sheeter Santosh Behera’s hideout near Rambha early in the morning today. While a bloody gun battle erupted between the two sides during the encounter, Santosh was struck with a bullet on his leg and was caught. However, one associate of the wanted criminal managed to escape from the spot.

Santosh has been admitted to Chhatrapur Sub-Divisional Hospital following his arrest.

Police said Santosh who is a resident of Khandadeuli area in Ganjam district is involved in over 16 cases.
