Mayurbhanj: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly sold off an infant to a couple for Rs 2000 in Rairangpur in Rairangpur of Mayurbhanj district in Odisha on Sunday. The agent has been identified as Tapan Dandapat while the couple has been identified as Prahlad Pratihari and Liza Pratihari.
The infant, from Sankhabhanga village under Jharpokharia Police limits, has been rescued safely.
Reportedly, the alleged agent was captured and thrashed by locals following allegation of selling the infant of a woman identified as Malati Digar. On getting the information, Jharpokharia Police arrived and initiated a probe in this connection.
Later, the couple was arrested from Rairangpur whereas the agent who sold the child was arrested from Saraskana. The arrested trio will be forwarded to court today, informed IIC Subhransu Sekhar Nayak.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
