29 girls who fled Gajapati residential school rescued

Mohana: At least 29 girls who had fled from the Antaraba government residential school located here last Saturday were rescued from a forested area in Tanglipadar late Sunday night.

As per the report, a joint team of police and district administration succeeded to track the mobile phones used by one of the escaped girl last night and conducted a raid in a hilly zone of Tanglipadar forest. During the raid the inmates were found staying in a house and rescued.

The students were immediately shifted to Chandragiri government residential school hostel in two SUVs.

While the exact reason of the escape of the inmates from the school is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that they had a complaint with the staff of the school, over not redressing their grievances. Before leaving the girls also left a letter mentioning the matter.

The rescued girls are currently being interrogated by the district administration officials over their reason of leaving the hostel and person who helped them in it, said District Welfare Officer (DWO) of Kandhamal to media.
