Balangir: Normal life came to a standstill in the district today following a 24-hour bandh observation by lawyers’ association and Central Action Committee (CAC) demanding establishment of a permanent High Court bench in western Odisha.

While schools, colleges and other educational institutions remained closed during the bandh protests which started at around 6 am in the morning, shops and retail outlets in the market also downed their shutters.

Bandh supporters also resorted to a  ’24-hour rail roko’ as a part of the bandh and sat on the track at Balangir station. At least 13 trains running through the route were cancelled in view of the protest. Both Up and Down trains of Sambalpur-Rayagada Intercity Express along with Vishakhapatnam-Raipur Passenger train were cancelled as a part of the preventive measure.

Meanwhile, traders’ association, bus and truck owners’ association along with several political parties have extended their support to the bandh.
