Soro: Simulia police in Balasore district detained a man while trying to deposit 22 fake notes of Rs 2000 denomination at Khirikana Cooperative Society here on Monday evening.
One Bishnu Nayak of Biranchipur village had gone to the Cooperative Society to deposit Rs 1,50,000. However, Secretary of the Cooperative Society Achyut Nanda Das suspected some notes to be fake and informed the Simulia police which came and seized the notes.
Police have registered a case in this regard and detained Nayak and his aide.
From its preliminary investigation, police knew that Bishnu has been running illegal cow and paddy business in the area and had gone to deposit the cash in his wife’s account. Further investigation into the matter is on.
