21-year-old Damayanti Majhi elected as Deputy Mayor of Cuttack

Cuttack: The candidate of the ruling party Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Damayanti Majhi has been elected as the youngest Deputy Mayor of Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Thursday.

Reportedly, the 21-year-old was elected uncontested as she was the lone candidate.

Majhi, who resides in Balisahi slum area, is a MCom student of Ravenshaw University, Cuttack.

She was declared winner after the corporators of BJP and Congress walked out of the indirect election in protest against its rules. The election was being held at Saheed Bhavan.

Earlier this morning, the newly elected representative of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Subhash Singh has taken oath as Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Mayor.

Notably, the elections for Deputy Mayor and Vice-Chairperson posts in Cuttack Municipal Corporation were held at 105 Municipalities today.
