20 migrant labourers rescued from Rayagada Railway Station

Rayagada: Human rights activists rescued at least 20 migrant labourers from Rayagada railway station while they were waiting to board a train to Hyderabad last night.

All the rescued persons have been identified as residents of Panchada village in Koraput district.

As per the report, after being misled by a middleman on the promise of hefty salary the victims had booked their seats in a train to Andhra Pradesh, where they supposed to work in a textile mill, informed the activists.

However, the activists conducted a raid at the railway station late in the night following a tip-off and rescued the victims after arresting the middleman.

The migrant labourers saved from the clutches of the trafficker have been handed over to the Labour Department officials and further investigation in the incident is underway.
