Kendrapara: At least 20 houses belonging to seven families were gutted and assets worth lakhs lost in a massive fire which broke out in Koranda village under Rajkanika police limits in the district last night.
Sparks erupted and smokes started billowing out of a house in the village late in the night while all were asleep. Till the villagers woke up and launched firefighting efforts the blaze had taken shape of a massive fire and spread to nearly 20 houses in the locality.
Furniture, valuable household goods, electronic items along with at least 3 bikes had been completely reduced to ashes in the fire till it was doused with the help of Rajkanika fire brigade teams, which reached the spot later in the night.
While the exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit is suspected behind the mishap.
