Balasore: In a success against drug traders in the district, Balasore Excise officials arrested a peddler from Rajpur village under Jaleswar police limits on Tuesday and seized around 20 grams of brown sugar from his possession.
The arrested accused has been identified as Seikh Azbahar, Rajpur Ward Member.
A special team of Balasore District Excise Office raided Seikh’s house this morning after they got specific information on his involvement in drug trade. During the raid a packet carrying around 20 grams of brown sugar was seized and the accused was taken into custody.
Excise Department sources said Seikh was selling the banned drug to prospective customers in Jaleshwar area after bringing them from Kharagpur, West Bengal. During his interrogation the accused has admitted that he had brought a consignment of 20-30 packets of brown sugar from the neighbouring state and sold them in the district.
Further investigation is underway to find out whether the accused has any connection to any drug racket or not.
