2 wild elephants damage houses, crops in Cuttack village

Cuttack: With no respite in sight from elephant incursion in several parts of the State, a group of two wild jumbos entered into Kanheipur village under Dalijoda forest range here last night and caused massive crop damage.

As per the locals, a herd of around 12 jumbos of different age groups from Kapilash forest area were wreaking havoc in Tangi and Choudwar for past couple of months. Yesterday at least two jumbos separate from the same herd entered into Kanheipur in search of food.

The pachyderms destroyed acres of paddy crops by this morning when the locals spotted them and tried to drive away. However, their efforts went in vain and the jumbos damaged a number of houses leaving them panicked.

Forest officials have rushed to the spot after getting an intimation on the incident.
