2 Trampled To Death By Elephants In Keonjhar

Keonjhar: Two persons, including a woman, were trampled to death by wild elephants in two separate villages in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.

The deceased have been identified as Sanjulata Rout (52) of Kanpur village and Jaga Mallick (52) of Nuarugudi village in Keonjhar district.

In the first incident, Jaga and his son were returning to their house at around 8 pm yesterday when a jumbo lifted Jaga with his trunk and dashed him to the ground. He sustained critical injuries and died on the way to Bhadrak hospital.

On the other hand, Manjulata was going to a nearby mango orchard near Salandi river when she was trampled to death by a tusker.

Post the incidents, angry locals staged a road blockade alleging inaction of forest officials to curb the jumbo menace in the area. They also demanded compensation for the family of the deceased.
