Plus Two student arrested over pre-poll violence in Odisha’s Rajdhani CollegeBhubaneswar: A Plus Two student of Rajdhani College  here has been arrested by the Commissionerate Police in connection with pre-poll violence in the campus on Saturday.

Khandagiri police arrested the student acting on a complaint filed by members of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD).

According to reports, a group class erupted between members of the BCJD and the Rajdhani Students’ Voice in which Biswajit Swain, the general secretary candidate of the Students’ Voice, was injured. Two groups filed separate police complaints with the Kandagiri police station in this regard.

“I sustained injury on my head after members of BCJD attacked me without any reason. I guess they attacked me only to threaten me. But I am not going to give up. So, I have filed an FIR with the Khandagiri police. I hope action will be taken against them and we will have a peaceful election,” said Swain.

On the other hand, the BCJD supporters alleged that their candidates and members are being targeted by activists of the Rajdhani Students’ Voice. They claimed that their rivals used the Plus Two students, who have no role in the students election, to attack them.

“Our opponents are scared of losing the election. That is why they are using all sorts of means to divert our mind. They are making use of the juniors (Plus Two students) to attack us,” alleged Rajat, presidential nominee of BCJD.

Meanwhile, Plus Two students of the college staged a sit in in-front of the college alleging that their batchmate, who has nothing to do with the election, has been arrested and sought the cancellation of the election.

“Our friend has been arrested for no fault. He must be released soon and the college authorities must cancel the Students’ Union Election to prevent further occurrence of violence in the institute. If this is the situation before the election notification is even issued, one can guess what will be the situation like during the election,” said a Plus Two student of the college.

The Plus Two students usually are not part of the Students’ Union Election.

Adequate police force has been deployed in the premises of the institute.
