Odisha: 2 school buses seized, 235 challans issued during special drive to check vehicles engaged in transporting students

Bhubaneswar: Two buses were seized in Rourkela while a total of 235 vehicles were issued challans during a special drive to check buses and other light vehicles engaged in transporting school students across Odisha.

According to the data shared by the Transport department of the State government, as many as 105 buses, 85 light vehicles/vans and 44 auto-rickshaws were inspected today.

The data further revealed that a total of 173 vehicles were detected without valid Fitness Certificates, 85 of them did not have permits, 98 of them did not have insurance, 51 were detected without PUC certificate, 25 did not pay tax and drivers of 59 vehicles did not have Driving License.

The Transport department has started a week-long special drive from today to inspect school buses and other vehicles engaged in the transportation of students. It will continue till April 27.

The regional transport offices (RTOs) across the state carried out the special drive following the direction of the Transport Commissioner who had asked all RTOs to issue challans against vehicles running without a valid fitness certificate, permit, insurance, PUC certificate and tax among others.
