2 Prime Accused In Howrah Woman Gang Rape Case Held

Puri: A special team of Konark Police on Friday nabbed the two prime accused, who were involved in the alleged gang rape of a Howrah-based woman in Konark last year.

The arrestees have been identified as Subhas Behera and Krushna Chandra Behera. The duo were arrested from Bedpur area under Gop police limits on Friday by tracking their phone call records.

Both them were forwarded to court on Saturday after interrogation, informed the police.

Notably, on October 17 last year, a woman from West Bengal’s Howrah was rescued by the police and locals from a closed room at a market complex in Konark.

The woman had told the police that she was lured by a person to Odisha on the pretext of employment and was later gang-raped by more than 10-12 men before being forced into prostitution.

Based on the victim’s complaint, the police had raided several lodges in Konark and arrested as many as seven persons in connection with the matter.
