2 Naxals gunned down by security forces near Odisha border

Malkangiri: In a success to security forces, at least two Naxals including a woman cadre were killed in an encounter which took place in Kanhaiguda forest under Konta police limits in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh near Odisha border today.

Informing on the encounter P Sundar Raj, DIG (Anti-Naxal Operations), Chhattisgarh said, a gun battle erupted between a group of District Reserve Guard (DRG) personnel and Naxals holed up in Kanhaiguda forest during a combing operation this morning. Later in exchange of fire two Red rebels were killed.

However, the DIG declined to share more information on the encounter maintaining that the operation is underway in the area.

As per the report, police also found huge cache of explosives from the spot and seized them during the encounter.

Worth mentioning, Maoists are observing Martyrs’ Week from July 28 to August 3 in view of which the security has been beefed up in Chhattisgarh.
