2 Maoists carrying Rs 1 lakh reward on each surrender

Angul: In a success to security forces, two Maoist cadre including one woman, carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh each on their heads, surrendered before Angul Police here today.

The surrendered Maoists are identified as Sukuram Purty (18) and Khusbu Jarai (17) of Jharkhand. They were working in the Sambalpur, Deogarh, Sundergarh Division (SDS) of outlawed CPI Maoist group since 2012.

The red rebel duo laid down their arms before Angul SP Brijesh Kumar Rai reaching his office in the city after expressing their interest to return to the mainstream. Ample security arrangements had been made for the surrendered two to avoid any untoward incident.

Informing on the surrender, Angul SP said the rebel duo were working under SDS Division head Anmol and were active in the areas like Khandapa, Purunakote and Thakurgarh of the district.

“The Maoist duo who surrendered today are from West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. They had a movement in Sambalpur and Rourkela along with Angul. They had escaped police firing for 7-8 occasions in the recent past,” said the SP.

“Both of them decided to quit the organization and return to the mainstream citing miserable condition of lower-ranked members and widespread discrimination in the Maoist outfit,” he added.

The surrendered Maoists would be entitled to get the monetary benefit as per the existing government provision and would get skill development training, said sources.
