2 killed, 12 injured as bus carrying pilgrims hits truck in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: A pilgrimage turned into a tragedy last night after at least two persons were killed and 12 others sustained injury after a passenger bus of Uttar Pradesh struck a bamboo-laden truck from behind on NH-16 near Charampa in Bhadrak district.

The deceased have been identified as driver of the bus Ram Sagar Yadav and a pilgrim namely Shib Narayan Mishra.

The mishap took place at around 3 AM in the night while bus carrying around 62 passengers was heading to Puri and running past Charampa Laxminaryan temple. The driver of the bus failed to detect a stationary bamboo-laden truck parked right in front of the temple and ended up hitting it from behind.

The bus got completely mangled from the front under the impact of the collision killing the driver and a pilgrim who was sitting near him.

The injured were rescued with the help of fire service personnel and rushed to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital immediately. Two of them who sustained critical injury in the crash was later shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack.

While a free of cost treatment is  being provided to the injured, the district administration has also made all arrangements to send them back to their home state by train, says reports.
