2 Held From Delhi, Indore For Looting Cigarettes Worth Rs 1.47 Cr In Odisha

Bhubaneswar: Odisha police have arrested two members of an inter-state dacoit gang from New Delhi and Indore for allegedly looting cigarettes worth around Rs 1.5 crore from a container truck in Odisha’s Khordha district on November 4.

The arrested decoits have been identified as Amit Chopra and Amit Choudhury.

As many as 238 cartons of cigarettes worth around Rs 1 crore and Rs 20 lakh have been seized form their possession, Khordha SP Ajay Pratap Swain informed today.

On the night of Navember 4, a dacoit gang intercepted a cigarette-laden truck, which was on its way to Kolkata from Hyderabad, on NH-16 at Ugratara Chhak under Tangi police limits in Khordha district.

They forcibly took the truck driver to a nearby forest at gunpoint and dumped him there after tying his hands and legs. Later they took the vehicle carrying 390 cartons of cigarette amounting to Rs 1.47 crore.

Next morning, the driver was rescued from the forest by some locals.

Based on a complaint lodged by the driver at the Tangi police station, police had begun investigation and recovered the empty truck from Kuhudi near Kainthapalli road in the district.
