2 elephants dead in separate accidents in Odisha Jharsuguda: Two elephants including a calf died in separate incidents at Sukhabandhali village under Laikera block of the district late on Sunday night.

According to reports, one female jumbo died on the spot after coming in contact with an 11-KV electric wire at the village, while a six-month-old elephant died after falling into a pit which was dug for rail line, just 30 metres away from where the female pachyderm was found dead this morning.

Jharsuguda DFO along with a team of forest officials and veterinary officials rushed to the spot after getting information from the locals, who also paid last respects to the wild animals by offering flowers.

Locals alleged that the elephants died due to the negligence of the local administration who despite repeated request did not step up for the security of the elephants. A four-month-old jumbo had died some days ago in the area after falling into the rail line pit.
