Keonjhar: At least two persons were killed and a woman sustained critical injury after an auto-rickshaw carrying them was hit by a speeding trawler on NH-215 near Kandara village under Joda police limits in the district last night.
The deceased duo has been identified as Sipu Mahakud, and Jambu Mahakud of Gidhibas village under Baria police limits of the same district.
As per the report, the victim trio was on their way to a relative’s house in a nearby village late in the night boarding the auto when the mishap took place. It is suspected that driver of a speeding trawler which was coming from the opposite direction failed to detect the auto and ended up dashing his vehicle against it on the highway.
The impact of collision was so serious that the auto got completely mangled, leaving one person dead on the spot. Another died on his way to Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
The injured woman identified as Untili Mahakud is currently under treatment at the DHH.
Meanwhile, Joda Police has reached the spot and seized both the vehicles involved in the accident after sending the deceased dup for autopsy.
