Balasore: Two police officials were hurt in an attack by a couple after they stopped the latter at Anji Square under Soro police limits in the district on Sunday for riding without helmet.
The injured policemen have been identified Assistant Sub-Inspector of Saud police Sarat Dhal and Constable Gangadhar Behera.
The attack took place last night when Sarat intercepted a bike borne couple identified as Kaseeruddin Khan and his wife Ruksana for not wearing helmet at Anji Square. Kaseeruddin went berserk over the cop’s move and asked him to show his Identity Card. Later he attacked the cop on the allegation of consuming liquor while on duty.
Things worsened further for the cop after Kaseeruddin’s wife joined him and thrashed Sarat with her sandals. Even Gangadhar who was accompanying Sarat was not spared by the woman and got brutally beaten up during the attack.
More shockingly, nobody came for the rescue of the victim police official duo while the attack took place before the eyes of hundreds of commuters.
The injured cop duo was rushed to Soro CHC from where they were shifted to Balasore DHH following the attack.
Soro SDPO Prabhash Chandra Pal along with Khantapada IIC rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
Police have started investigation and are trying to trace the accused couple who is absconding after the incident.
