2 brothers among 3 killed in lightning during hockey match in Sundargarh

Sundargarh: A pall of gloom descended on Shankarabahal village under Talsara police limits of the district following the death of three persons including two brothers this evening. The trio was killed after lightning struck them during a hockey match.

The deceased have been identified as Sumant Gauda, Sushant Gauda and Rabi Narayan Danti.

According to sources, there was a heavy rain in the area while a group of youths was playing a hockey match. All of them took shelter under a tree following the downpour accompanied with thunderstorm and lightning. However, lightning struck them.

While three of them died on the spot, two others sustained critical injuries. The injured players were rushed to Sundergarh hospital. Bodies of the deceased persons also have been taken to the hospital for postmortem.

Talsara police has started an investigation into the matter.
