1st Of Its Kind Cadaver Transplant Operation In Odisha (WATCH)

Cuttack: An unique operation has taken place in SCB Medical College yesterday. A first of its kind cadaver kidney transplant has been carried out in Odisha.

The kidney of a woman who died in Apollo Hospital, Bhubaneswar has been transplanted to a patient in SCB Hospital, Cuttack.

A seven hour long operation was carried on in SCB to save a man’s life by way of a kidney transplant.

By 11:00 pm all the arrangements were completed by Apollo Hospital and the kidneys of the woman who had died was ready to be transported to SCB, Cuttack.

The operation is technically termed, “Cadaveric Transplant”.

It is noteworthy that the woman, Priyanka Rani Patra who posthumously donated her kidney was critically injured in a road accident. She belonged to Digapahandi area of Ganjam.

The injuries were grave and she could not be saved. Her relatives agreed to the transplant, after she was declared dead by the doctors of Apollo Hospital.
