Berhampur: The court of Additional District Judge (I) in Berhampur today awarded life imprisonment to 18 persons in connection with a murder case in 2007.
The court today convicted 18 persons for the killing of Maheswar Sasmal, a resident of Phulta village in Rangeilunda Tehsil of Ganjam District in 2007. Sasmal was killed after the group of accused had assaulted him with sharp-edged weapons. Later a case was registered with the B.N.Pur police station on the basis of a complaint filed by the brother of the deceased.
The court pronounced the judgment after examining the evidence and statements of 12 prosecution witnesses. “I am happy that the court convicted the accused after 12 years. We have been waiting for this day,” said Babula Sasmal, the complainant.
